History
The Customs Watch program, formerly known as Frontline and Hotline, has had a proven history of success since the implementation of the community participation programs in 1991.
This community and industry based initiative, Frontline and Hotline was launched in the early 1990s.
For the past 20 years Customs and Border Protection has been working closely with key groups and individuals within the community who are most likely to have information or come in contact with activities that may be of interest to Customs and Border Protection. Customs and Border Protection has forged strong relationships with remote private enterprises, marina operators, caravan parks, roadhouse staff, fishing clubs, remote property owners, four wheel drive owners and residents of remote coastal areas. These relationships have increased Customs and Border Protection's reach and connectivity across Australia and maintain an awareness of what’s happening at the border.
At the same time Customs and Border Protection has developed strong partnerships with industry members to deter criminal activity at the border. Customs and Border Protection works closely with freight forwarders, shipping companies, warehouses and depots.
Over the years Customs and Border Protection has secured the support of over 1200 industry members. We look forward to the future of Customs Watch, establishing new industry and community support for this worthwhile and very valuable program.
