Customs and Border Protection Media Release

Vessel interceted by Border Protection Command - 19 May 2010

ACV Hervey Bay, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, yesterday evening successfully intercepted a suspected irregular entry vessel south west of Ashmore Islands.

Initial indications suggest 39 passengers and 2 crew are on board the vessel.

The group will be conveyed to Christmas Island for security, identity and health checks, and their reasons for travel will be established.
