Man charged with importing methamphetamine into Christmas Island - 16 June 2010

A 45-year-old Christmas Island man will appear in the Christmas Island Magistrates Court today charged with importing methamphetamine.
Customs and Border Protection Officers suspected the man was concealing drugs internally when he arrived on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Christmas Island on 9 April 2010.
The man was referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and taken to hospital for a medical examination.
The AFP charged the man with importing a marketable quantity of a border controlled substance, namely methamphetamine, contrary to section 307.2 of the Criminal Code Act 1994.
The maximum penalty for this offence is 25 years imprisonment.
