Border Protection Command intercepts vessel - 21 July 2010
HMAS Broome, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, this morning intercepted a suspected irregular entry vessel north of Flying Fish Cove, Christmas Island.
Initial indications suggest there are 40 passengers and three crew on board.
The vessel was initially detected north of Flying Fish Cove by HMAS Broome and due to poor weather conditions was escorted to safer waters at Flying Fish Cove where it was boarded.
The group will be transferred to Christmas Island where they will undergo security, identity and health checks and their reasons for travel will be established.
