Border Protection Command intercepts vessel - 6 September 2010

HMAS Launceston, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, boarded a suspected irregular entry vessel north of Ashmore Islands this morning.  

Initial indications suggest there are 60 passengers and two crew on board the vessel.  

The group will be transferred to Christmas Island where they will undergo security, identity and health checks and their reasons for travel will be established.
