Border Protection Command intercepts vessel - 08 October 2010

Officers from ACV Corio Bay intercepted a suspected irregular entry vessel north of Scott Reef last night.

Initial indications suggest there are 56 passengers and two crew on board.

The vessel was initially detected by a RAAF P3 surveillance aircraft operating under the control of Border Protection Command.

The group will be transferred to Christmas Island where they will undergo security, identity and health checks and their reasons for travel will be established.
