Tariff Advice System review
Why are we conducting a review of the Tariff Advice System?
The review is an opportunity for Customs and Border Protection to take a fresh look at the Tariff Advice System and determine if any improvements need to be made to ensure we’re meeting the needs of industry and other stakeholders.
What do we hope to achieve?
1. Ensure business practices around the provision of tariff advice align with Customs and Border Protection’s current structure and strategic objectives.
2. Ensure resources are appropriately allocated.
3. Deliver timely, consistent, transparent and accurate tariff advice in line with Government policy.
4. Ensure Customs and Border Protection appropriately influences the demand volume with its business practices
5. Ensure tariff advices are appropriately targeted to the volume of requests for advice.
6. Determine whether it is appropriate to make tariff advices publicly available.
The review will encompass:
• provision of formal Tariff Advice Decisions to external clients;
• provision of formal reviews of Tariff Advice Decisions
• provision of written classification decisions and advice to other areas within Customs and Border Protection;
• informal classification advice to internal and external clients;
