The Information for Exporters Package
The Information for Exporters package has been specifically developed to assist industry to improve compliance relating to export data. Accurate export data entered in the Integrated Cargo System (ICS) leads to Customs having an enhanced ability to undertake border protection and the improvement of Australia's international trade statistics.
Accurate export data is highly important to the Government and the private sector for various reasons, for example:

Customs also uses export entry data when risk assessing outbound cargo to ensure that relevant border controls are maintained and that government revenue is protected;

Australian and overseas investors use export statistics to conduct market research and identify business opportunities; and
-
export statistics are used to monitor and assess market share and trading patterns.
Many Freight Forwarding, Customs Brokers, and Exporting businesses are very busy and when entering export data into ICS, timeframes can be tight. It has been noted that the turnover of staff in data entry positions can be quite high and the ability to provide appropriate training for staff can be difficult. In essence Customs believes the Export Information Package will deliver benefits to both industry and Government. Industry will gain efficiencies through greater understanding of export requirements while Government will gain increased data compliance.
