IF YOU ARE DEPARTING

  • you should have your passport, completed outgoing passenger card and boarding pass ready;
  • if you are 18 years or over, on your return to Australia you can bring up to $A900 worth of duty/tax free goods ($A450 for under 18), 2.25 litres of alcohol and 250 cigarettes or 250g of tobacco products (see Duty Free Concessions);
  • you must declare amounts of $A10 000 or more in foreign or Australian currency you take out or bring into Australia;
  • you should beware of buying souvenirs made out of animal or plant material as they may be prohibited; and
  • taking prescription medicines subsidised under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) overseas that are not for your personal use or for the use of someone travelling with you, is illegal. IF YOU ARE ARRIVING

  • you should have your passport and completed Incoming Passenger Card ready;
  • declare all food (tinned or packaged), plant and animal material;
  • pack all goods you wish to declare in an easily accessible bag to assist with Customs inspection; and
  • be honest with Customs.
