customs international executive management program
Customs and Border Protection has conducted an executive management program since 1989 for officers of regional customs administrations, called the Customs International Executive Management Program (CIEMP). Initiated and sponsored by Customs and Border Protection, CIEMP integrates the study of management theory in a Customs context. Course participants receive lectures and presentations from subject specialists, including Australian Customs officers, in a range of Customs-related fields.
CIEMP aims to:
- Enhance networks between regional customs administrations;
- Develop management capacity within these administrations; and
- Improve customs procedure; and integrity in customs practices overseas.
Each year, invitations are forwarded to administrations in the Asia-Pacific region. Heads of administrations are encouraged to identify and nominate one middle/senior customs officer who has the potential for advancement within their organisation. One Australian Customs and Border Protection officer also participates in the program each year.
Since its inception, more than 300 regional customs officers, have participated in CIEMP. A significant number have gone on to become leaders in their own customs administrations. CIEMP has helped to establish and maintain Customs and Border Protection’s leadership and influence in the Asia Pacific region.
CIEMP 2011
CIEMP 2011 will be conducted in Canberra from 5 October - 4 November 2011. A key element of the course will be a regional visit to Customs and Border Protection operational facilities to see the practical application of Customs and Border Protection management theories learnt during the course.
This year 14 regional customs administrations have been invited to participate: New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and East Timor.
