Australian SmartGate extended permanently to UK ePassport Holders

The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS) began a trial on Thursday, 25 July 2013 to open SmartGate to eligible UK citizens arriving at Sydney and Adelaide airports.

On 16 September 2013 the UK trial was rolled out to all remaining airports. The national trial continued until the end of October when the use of SmartGate was permanently extended to eligible UK citizens.

SmartGate access to be expanded

An additional 20 SmartGate terminals will be installed at Australian international airports by 2014. The additional terminals are expected to boost uptake of SmartGate usage and enable more eligible passengers to get through passport control using their ePassport rather than queuing to have their passport stamped.

Switzerland (Swiss) ePassport Sydney SmartGate Trial

The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS) began a trial on Friday, 20 December 2013 to open SmartGate to eligible Switzerland citizens at Sydney International Airport.
