US Global Entry Program Trial

Customs and Border Protection will commence a trial on 1 November 2012 to open SmartGate to US Global Entry Program members.

To be eligible to use SmartGate to self-process through Australia’s passport control, US Global Entry Program members must:

  • be flying into Australia

  • travel on a valid US ePassport; and

  • be aged 16 years or older.

US Global Entry Program members will be the first non-Australians to use the self processing solution since SmartGate was made available to New Zealand ePassport holders in December 2007. The trial will mean more travellers than ever before can take advantage of this technology and help Customs and Border Protection to better manage peak processing periods.

US Global Entry Program members are advised that the trial does not change the visa requirements or the visa process for travel to Australia. For more information about obtaining a visa to enter Australia, visit the Embassy of Australia website.
